Your Periods Don’t Have To Suck

From throwing up + passing out to…nothing at all.

One of my clients just had her first period ever without cramps – omggg!

I wish I could say I'm surprised, but I'm not. I was waiting for this to happen, it was just a matter of when. For years (yearssssssss), she would vomit, miss work, even pass out from the pain. Month after month, her body screamed that something wasn’t right, and every time, she was told, “That’s just how it is.”

But it’s not. And that’s not true. Bare minimum this is gaslighting from your provider and you should seek more compassionate care. The hill I will die on: common does not equal normal.

Here’s the tea…

The medical term for painful periods is dysmenorrhea, which refers to severe cramping pain that occurs during or shortly before menstruation. Dysmenorrhea can range in severity from mild discomfort, you know, the things you’d complain about in the group chat, to debilitating pain that interferes with daily activities like staying focused at work or not being able to hit the grocery store.

It’s super common, with estimates ranging from 50% to over 90% of women (likely underreported) of reproductive age experiencing it. Typical first-line treatment is nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), since they inhibit the production of pain-causing prostaglandins. Acetaminophen and hormonal contraceptives are a close second, but my client wasn’t having any of it.

We took a holistic approach…

Like the fertility-minded girly she is — after all, she was taking caution 2 years out of TTC like a boss mom-to-be — she opted for a more holistic approach. With the right nourishment, mineral balance, and a calm, supported nervous system, her body finally exhaled. It let go of the chaos. Her hormones found their rhythm again. And now, she’s on her way to stronger ovulation, clearer cycles, and the fertility she’s been dreaming about.

Reconnection to your body’s natural intelligence is the missing piece. Then, it can finally feel safe enough to conceive.

If you’ve been living with pain or chaos around your cycle, it doesn’t have to be your normal anymore. A healthy period now is an easier fertility journey + pregnancy later.
